Bopyrione synalphei, new genus, new species, a parasite of Synalpheus goodei Coutière in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, S. bousfieldi Chace, S. pectiniger Coutière and Synalpheus spp. in Haiti and Synalpheus sp. in Curaçao, is described. A member of the bopyrid subfamily Bopyrinae, whose diagnosis is slightly amended to accommodate it, it is closely allied to the genera Bopyroides Stimpson and Bopyrina Kossmann. Reexamination of the holotype of Bopyroides woodmasoni Chopra, 1923, a parasite of Synalpheus neomeris (de Man) in the Andaman Islands, indicates that it is also assignable to Bopyrione. |

SUMMARY Euchirella paulinae spec. nov. is described and illustrated in extenso ; various structures are outlined in detail for the first time. The external morphology of the new species is discussed with reference to the other species of the genus. Some brief remarks are made about the anatomical terminology of the mouthparts of Copepoda, and on the necessity to always describe new species really scrutinously. INTRODUCTION In the course of a revision of the aetideid genera Euchirella Giesbrecht, 1888 and Pseudochirella G. O. Sars, 1920, an undescribed species of Euchirella was found in the material originating from the Danish "Dana" Expedition 1928-30. The new species will be reported upon separately in the present paper. Its tentative relationships with... |

The impact of beef imports on United States meat prices is a highly emotional and controversial issue. Congressmen representing urban districts, and to a lesser extent the Administration, look towards beef imports as a way of containing rapid increases in meat prices. Congressmen and Senators from beef-producing States regard beef imports as a direct attack on the U.S. beef-producing industry. These differing views are being reconciled through Congress considering amendments to the Meat Import Law (Public Law 88-482). The impacts and the amendments are of vital interest to Australia because about 25 per cent of Australia's beef production is sold on the lucrative U.S. market. In this note it is argued that, in general, the reported impacts on U.S. meat... |

Attention is drawn to the unusual distribution of flowers and inflorescences in a number of species, and to certain peculiarities of branching and phyllotaxy. The latter are explained by a heterophylly which so far has escaped notice, involving the formation and early disappearance of a pair of minute intercalary cataphylls. A similar branching pattern and flower distribution is evident in Helicanthes. |

The Box-Cox transformation (BCT) has been frequently used as both a flexible functional form and as a decision device to distinguish among alternative model specifications. Most researchers have failed to recognize that the BCT when applied to the dependent variable can compensate for heteroskedasticity. This paper investigates a new procedure which estimates both the BCT parameters and the analytic form of heteroskedasticity. Results from the new procedure are compared to estimates obtained from the traditional method of estimating BCT models. Comparisons indicate that proper specification of the error variance can influence the magnitude of BCT parameters and alter the results of hypothesis testing. |

For many international students who study agricultural economics in the United States, English is not their first language nor the language of academic instruction in their home country. This paper evaluates a program designed to permit international students with English deficiencies to begin their graduating training while simultaneously taking an intensive course in English as a second language. It is found that there is no significant difference in the performance of students in this program and other international students who begin their training with a capability in English. |

During the 1973 cruise of the BIOGAS deep-sea program, a series of 83 frames showing a high population density of the isocrinid stalked crinoid Diplocrinus (Annacrinus) wyvillethomsoni was obtained from a depth of 1246 m on the bathyal slope of the Bay of Biscay. The spatial distribution of D. wyvillethomsoni appears to be highly aggregated. Mean density is 0.61 m-² with confidence limits determined as 0.53 and 0.69 m-², ranging up to 8 or 10 specimens m-² on a sea floor with pebbles and rocks. D. wyvillethomsoni forms a parabolic filtration fan with its arms strongly recurved into the current. The distal group of cirri grips pebbles or the sharp upper edges of rocks. This active mode of anchorage contrasts with the passive mode in other genera of... |
